Measurement for Improvement is essential for delivering safer, higher-quality healthcare. This practical workshop introduces a shift from relying on averages and before-and-after comparisons to understanding data over time and the variation within systems. 

Learn how measurement supports clinical governance and accreditation, and how tools such as run charts and statistical process control (SPC) charts reveal opportunities for improvement. Explore key principles, including Deming’s theory and the difference between common and special cause variation. 

Designed for clinicians and healthcare professionals, this session focuses on real-world application, equipping you with simple, practical measurement tools you can use immediately to support continuous quality improvement in your everyday practice. 

This is a 3‑hour training session. We acknowledge attendance and time spent in learning which may be used to apply for CPD points from your professional registration body.

Meet Your Presenters

Associate Professor Peter Hibbert

PhD, B.App.Sc.(Physio), Grad.Dip.Comp., Grad.Dip.Econ

Stream Lead Patient Safety and Appropriateness of Care, Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University

Peter has worked for the last 20 years in research and policy implementation in patient safety and measurement of evidenced-based care, including three years as an Associate Director at the National Patient Safety Agency in the UK. He previously worked as a physiotherapist for 12 years.

He is also leading an NHMRC Partnership Grant into improving patient safety adverse event reviews across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and the ACT. As well as research, Hibbert has hands-on clinical governance roles including membership of Board level committees at the South Australian Ambulance Service and undertaking Reviews when patients or residents are harmed.

    Please note that registrations for this event are managed by Eventbrite which accepts payment with credit or debit card. Registrants will receive an automated tax invoice/receipt once they have finalised their payment. This can be used for reimbursement purposes.   • Cancellation Policy

    The ACHS reserves the right to cancel any program. Full registration will be refunded if a program is cancelled or oversubscribed. Cancellations received in writing more than 7 days prior to the event will be accepted and all fees refunded less 10% (ex GST) of the total cost of the training. Cancellations advised in writing within 7 days of the event will not be refunded, however, transfer of your registration to another person in your organisation or an alternative IA event for the same value is supported.
